Applying for Schengen-Visa at the embassy of Caracas

06/08/2008 :: Venezuelan citizens do not require a tourist visa in order to visit the Schengen area. Venezuelans are entitled to stay in the Schengen area as a tourist for a period of 3 months within a 6 month period.

Citizen’s from other countries residing in Venezuela might require a visa to visit the Schengen area. For an updated list on which nations that are exempted from the visa requirement, please see the home page of the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration: www.udi.no

The Norwegian embassy in Caracas also handles applications for Schengen-visa for people residing in Venezuela that wish to visit either Denmark, Sweden or Iceland.

The fee for the processing of a visa application is currently USD 80.

It is very important to enclose all necessary documentation and information with the application when applying for a Schengen-visa at the embassy in Caracas.

The following documentation must be submitted when applying for a Schengen-visa:

For all applications:

  • Application form 
  • Passport valid for no less than 3 months after the anticipated return from Europe
  • 2 photographs
  • Letter of invitation from a Norwegian citizen or a foreigner who is a permanent resident in Norway for private visits (please see additional list of documents below), or a company or organization registered in Norway for professional trips (please see additional list of documents below).
  • If visa is applied for tourist reasons: Copy of purchased tourist trip/information about which hotel the applicant intends to stay at.
  • Document concerning the applicant’s work, income and owned property. The letter from the employer should state the applicant’s position and income level, and also state that the applicant is allowed to be away from her position for the requested visa period.
  • Documentation concerning the applicant’s family in his/her home country
  • If applying for a multi-entry visa: Explanation as to why the applicant needs multiple entries. If necessary for business reasons: the explanation should come from the employer.
  • Health insurance with a minimum coverage of at least 30.000 euros. Please note that a visa will not be issued until the embassy has received a copy of the health insurance for the entire period of the stay.

Additional documentation for private trips:

  • Letter of invitation. The letter should contain information regarding the purpose of the travel, as well as information regarding the relationship between the applicant and the reference person and contact information for the reference person.
  • Documentation proving the applicant’s family relations to his/her relations in Norway, e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate etc.
  • Copy of the reference person’s passport. If the applicant and the reference person are boyfriend/girlfriend: copy off all used pages of the reference person’s passport.
  • If the applicant is a child that travels without parents or with only one parent: authorization for travel from the parent/s that stay behind in the country of origin. The authorization should be confirmed by Notarius Publicus.
  • Guarantee form for visit Norway/Sweden
  • If the applicant is paying for the trip himself/herself: inclusion of bank statements proving that the applicant has the economic means to support himself/herself during the visit.

Additonal documentation for trips for profesional reasons:

  • Letter of invitation. The letter should contain information regarding the purpose of the travel, as well as some information regarding about the relation and cooperation between the inviting and invited parties.
  • Guarantee form for visit Norway/Sweden
  • If the applicant is paying for the trip himself/herself: inclusion of bank statements proving that the applicant has the economic means to support himself/herself during the visit.

Please note the following:

  • The letter of invitation should as a minimum contain the answer to the questions found in the following Questionaire.doc
  • The embassy in Caracas reserves the right to request further information and documentation in the case if deemed necessary.
  • The case handling procedures may take up to 4 weeks. If the embassy is in doubt of the outcome, the application will be forwarded to the correct authority in the Scandinavian countries so that they can make a decision. It is therefore very important to apply well in advance before the planned trip.
  • The applicant must be prepared to provide translation of all documentation upon request.
